Pull ups NOT REQUIRED for female Marines!?!
Ok I do understand that pull ups are hard…I mean they really really SUCK.
I also understand that most women hate them and really struggle with them.
BUT for MARINE FEMALES to not be required to be able to do at least one!?! That is ridiculous.
An article called “Pull-ups for women? Not going to happen” states that, “A plan that would toughen the Physical Fitness Test for women by adding pull-ups has been put off indefinitely.”
My question is…why? Why aren’t women being required to perform an exercise which is a GREAT demonstration of upper body strength?
Because we can’t on average do as many as men? Because they are super hard?
Why are we simply not using pull ups as a test instead of TRAINING women to be able to do them!?!
Seriously, this is ridiculous! Pull ups are something I firmly believe that everyone…I repeat…EVERYONE should be able to do AT LEAST one of.
What are your thoughts? Do you think that the fitness standards for Marines should be that different that women aren’t even required to do pull ups AT ALL?
P.S. The picture is also incorrect. What she is actually doing is a chin up…..

What is the difference between a pull up and a chin up What is a flex arm hang? Inquiring minds want to know.
A pull up grip is palm facing away while chin ups is palms facing you. A flexed arm hang is supposed to be an assisted variation of the pull up.
I think the pic is actually of the flexed arm hang. Not sure which grip they ask for. I think its CRAZY not to have women do pull ups. Women are VERY capable of training to do quite well with pull ups Actually, I have had to both in the past, and I would prefer them…I wasn’t all that good at the flexed arm hang but could rip out quite a few pull ups. Maybe that’s just me…but it should definitely be added to the women’s testing…at least as an option.
Either way…it isn’t a pull up grip!!! haha And I agree! We are strong enough that pull ups SHOULD be a test for us!
kinda surprising….isn’t the Marines the hard-core military branch????
That was what I said when I first saw the article!!
I can’t do a pull-up but I’d like to think that if I was going to join the Marines, I’d be in good enough shape and strong enough that I could do at least one. Just because something is hard does not mean it’s impossible!
Pull ups are definitely hard but if you are going to be in the MARINES, I definitely think you should be able to do one if they expect men to be able to do 20 to get 100%.
